Fiberglass Dune Buggy body other components

SidePods, Tonneau Covers, Soft Tops, other body parts…

by ACME

Back in the early days of the dune buggy movement—when surfboards hung from rafters and fiberglass dust floated through sun-lit garages—builders quickly discovered that the magic of a buggy wasn’t just in the body itself. It was in all the little pieces that made the car truly your own.

At ACME, we’ve always believed that a dune buggy should be more than just transportation. It should be a reflection of its builder—part hot-rod ingenuity, part beach-town creativity, and part pure fun. That’s why alongside our classic buggy bodies, we offer the same kinds of fiberglass accessories that buggy builders were crafting in backyards and small shops during the golden era of the 1960’s and 70’s.

Take our body sidepods, for example. In the early days, sidepods were one of the first custom touches buggy owners added to their cars. Besides giving the buggy a sleeker, more finished look, the bubble sidepods provided extra space for build-in speakers or some custom storage. Our ACME sidepods are designed to complement our body styles perfectly, flowing naturally with the lines of the buggy just like the period pieces that inspired them.

If you want non-color specific SidePods or Tonneau’s that you want to paint to match your current dune buggy, select the NON-Flake option (Grey Paintable) base gel coat from ACME.

Then there’s the tonneau cover, a simple but classy addition that instantly gives a buggy that roadster feel. In the 1960s, a tonneau wasn’t just about looks—it kept the interior clean when the car was parked and gave the buggy a streamlined appearance when cruising down the coast or through town on a summer evening. It’s the sort of detail that makes people stop and look twice. The covers also can be customized to have a fully locking capability to secure your valuables while out cruising.

Of course, anyone who has ever built a buggy knows that no two projects are ever exactly the same. That’s where our flat fiberglass panels and utility pieces come in. These panels are perfect for custom dashboards, interior panels, bulkheads, battery covers, or whatever creative solution your build requires. Just like the original buggy pioneers, today’s builders can cut, shape, and glass them into place to create something truly unique. ACME Tonneau covers come with both integrated Headrests or Flat contoured. An optional trunk wall encloses in the area.

The Full Soft Top and kit comes with all Stainless Steel Hardware, SS snaps, SS mounting pins, a full storage bag, and a boot cover to store the soft top while folded down still on the buggy. ACME can also install onto your buggy at our regular hourly rates. Please contact us if you have any questions. Click HERE to learn more.

And that’s really what dune buggy culture has always been about. Not just bolting parts together—but creating something personal. Something that reflects the builder’s imagination, skill, and sense of adventure.

From body sidepods and tonneau covers to flat panels specialty fiberglass components, and even Soft Tops, ACME continues the tradition that started in small garages more than half a century ago—keeping the spirit of the classic dune buggy alive, one handmade piece at a time. 🏁

Below are ACME’s standard body color options for both metal flake, non-metal flake and custom (your own creation) metal flake colors.

Custom Colors as below…if you don’t see the exact color that speaks to you, you’re in good company. Many builders before you have worked with us to create their own one-off color and flake combinations, continuing the long tradition of personalizing a dune buggy until it feels just right. Custom color and flake options are available additions for all ACME bodies.
